Research field:

Dr. Fang’s innovative research lays at the interface of organic and materials chemistry. On one hand, she focuses on unravelling the structural-function relationship and fundamental science of molecular assemblies on surfaces using scanning probe microscopy (SPM) techniques. She has made a major contribution in understanding the symmetry breaking and chiral amplification in surface confined monolayers. On the other hand, she is interested in developing novel π-conjugated Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) and their implementation in optoelectronic devices (thin film field-effect transistors, photovoltaics, etc).

Research direction keywords:

Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs), Chirality, Supramolecular Chemistry, On Surface Molecular Self-assembly, On Surface Reaction, Dynamic Covalent Chemistry, Thin films and nanotechnology, π–conjugated materials.

Achievements, Major awards, honorific distinctions, and fellowships:

Dr. Fang published 9 papers as the first author inNat. Chem.,J. Am. Chem. Soc.(2),Chem. Sci.and other journals. In total, she published 20 SCI papers, of which 17 have an impact factor greater than 6, 3 were selected as the cover articles of the journal and 1 was rated as the highly cited paper. During her postdoctoral study, she wasinvited as aGuest Professorgiving a lecture in an advanced graduate degree course on Solid Surfaces and Interfaces at Concordia University. She had 1invited presentationat an international conference and won theBest Presentation Award. In 2019, Dr. FangreceivedNSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships Award, as theTop-ranked Female (Canadian National level)andFQRNT Postdoctoral Research Scholarship. In the same year, she receivedAlice Wilson Awardfrom Royal Society of Canada(In Canada, awarded annually to three women of outstanding academic qualifications in the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences or Science, who are entering a career in research at the postdoctoral level). Due to this prestige award, she wasinterviewed by the Quebec Centre for Advanced Materials(QCAM); a full-page article is published on QCAM Newsletter. She also receivedrecognitionfrom McGill University and was included in McGill’s Winning Researchers List (https://www.mcgill.ca/researchhonours/people/field_mprofile_department/Department%2520of%2520Chemistry), thus became the25thhonorary scholar in the Department of Chemistry of McGill Universityover the past 100 years.Sheis serving as aTopic Editorfor in journalMaterials(MDPI) in the section of Thin Films and Interfaces.
